Monumental day for Clonee United

Today was a monumental day for Clonee United as all the photos and videos will show. After near 20 years of football and 10 years of girls football in the area we finally hit the jackpot and got a visit from ROI manager Vera Pauw along with full senior squad, Vera and the squad wasted no time and immediately set out the pitches to exacting standard and began to coach all our girls. A game between a selection of our top U14prem girls v our top U13s boys was watched closely by FAI high performance director Rudd Dokter. There is absolutely no doubt that amount the 9 to 19 year old girls present that we will have girls wearing the green international Jersey in the future which is testament to the high standards to which the girls are trained.
We started 10 years ago with 8 girls and thanks to the continuing relentless efforts of John Bassi and John Paul Hendrick this has grown to over 150 with the help of all our committee and coaches who strive for excellence.
On a personal note I have attended many cup finals and league Cup presentations over my 19 years with the club but today was my proudest moment to see such awe and joy in all the players to meet their idol’s and share the same pitch as them, today makes it all worthwhile as at the end of the day it’s the kids on the pitch what counts.
With the help of FAI Development Officer Sean Moore and Fingal Co council we hope to build Clonee United into a super club within the Dublin 15 area
