U11P White Win in Newbridge

Posted on: April 8th, 2018 by clonadmin

Match report from Vinny Blood Girls U11 Premier White

After all the rain during the past week it was great to get a game for the girls as it was being played on Newbridge’s fantastic Astro. The games between the 2 teams have been tight enough encounters. We had won at home in both league and the cup v Newbridge before Christmas but we knew this would be another close game as they have improved with their last couple of results. First half seen chances at both ends. A cross from Clonee captain Molly was met by a Newbridge raised hand in the box. The ref’s decision was a penalty. Makers takers, up stepped Molly with a cool head and slotted low past the keeper to put Clonee 1 up. At the other end Clonee’s keeper Sinead made not 1 but 2 fine saves to deny Newbridge goals. First one Sinead while moving to her left and the shot was heading towards the opposite corner, her outstretched right leg saved a sure goal. Her second was to push a good shot on target over her crossbar HT 1-0 Clonee.

Second half seen great link passing for Clonee’s second, after a few passes the ball was played wide right to Jennifer, I gave a shout to Jennifer to take the defender on. Instead Jennifer made her own decision (the right one) lifted her head up and gave a low cross from her side across the box to Clonee’s left winger Emily who was flying like a steam train she took 1 touch then fired low and hard past the keeper’s bottom right. Newbridge did not give in. Sinead was again called to make another 2 fine saves. First with her left hand to stop a hard drive going into her left side and her second stop was an outstretched left leg in a 1v 1 against the impressive Newbridge striker. The impressive Newbridge striker got her deserved goal when she got in behind the Clonee defence and managed to get past Sinead and slot home to half Clonee’s lead. There was not long left and again the Clonee’s link from right wing to left wing was Jennifer passing across to Emily but this time Emily was unable to make the connection which would have got her a second goal her performance deserved.

FT 2-1 away win to Clonee. Ava & Alex held strong at the back and in Midfield Ella, Molly Hannah, Jennifer & Emily put in great shifts to make sure Clonee came away with the points. Highlights Sinead & Emily’s best performances in Clonee Shirts…well done Clonee girls great team performance.
